LD-39 Assembly candidates receive backing of 200,000 member-strong pro-public education group
(Emerson, NJ) Westwood Mayor John Birkner Jr. and retired Mahwah police officer & Emerson Borough Council President Gerald Falotico, candidates for Assembly in New Jersey’s 39th Legislative District, announced today that they are among the bipartisan list of 59 candidates in the state to be endorsed by the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA).
The candidates released a joint statement thanking the NJEA for their support, “We are beyond honored to be included on the bipartisan list of Assembly candidates endorsed this year by the NJEA. We gratefully and humbly accept this endorsement and count it among the most treasured vote of confidence our campaign has received.”
“Our public schools are the backbone of what makes New Jersey great – we will always support the students, parents, teachers, and educational support professionals who make up our public school community. We are ready and eager to get to Trenton and join in the work of repairing the damage that eight years of the Chris Christie administration did to our public schools,” they continued.
Announcing the endorsements, NJEA Vice President Sean M. Spiller said, “On Nov. 5, we have the opportunity to make our voices heard and ensure that the people we elect to represent us in the Assembly share our commitment to excellent public schools for students, and dignity and economic justice for school employees.”
Bergen County Education Association (BCEA) President Sue McBride had this to say about the choice to endorse Birkner and Falotico, “John Birkner and Gerald Falotico are pro-public education candidates, who understand the need for job justice for our educational support professionals and relief from the burdens of Chapter 78. BCEA members are very active in the political process. We’ve studied the issues, and we are committed to supporting those candidates who share our commitment to public schools, public school employees, and our students.”
John Birkner Jr. added, “It is gratifying and humbling to receive the endorsement and confidence of our education professionals to whom we entrust our most precious natural resource – our children. Gerry and I really appreciate the entire membership of the NJEA and everything they do to make New Jersey a leader in education.”
Gerald Falotico also stated, “I believe our great public schools are one of the very best things about living in New Jersey. John and I are committed to working every day in the legislature to ensure that our teachers and educational support professionals are treated with fairness and dignity.”
