Bloomfield Councilman Carlos Pomares running for Essex County Freeholder, Endorsed by Essex County Democrats & Mayor Mike Venezia

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield Councilman at-Large Carlos Pomares is running for the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders, 5th District, in the upcoming June primary election. Pomares is endorsed by Bloomfield Mayor Mike Venezia, who he won re-election with alongside last year, as well as the Essex County Democratic Committee.

“I am beyond excited to take this step and announce my campaign for Freeholder today,” said Councilman Pomares, who was first elected in 2013. “Bloomfield is in good hands with Team Venezia and I am looking forward to continuing to work with this community on the county level, while also providing that same level of excellent public service to the residents of Belleville, Glen Ridge, Montclair and Nutley.”

Carlos Pomares works as the Executive Director of the Cuban Artists Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to the rich cultural history of the Cuban people, and is also an adjunct college professor. He has been a lifelong student of history, which led him to earn a Master’s Degree in Museum Professions from Seton Hall University. As a Council member, Carlos has worked to stabilize property taxes, enhance public safety and bring new open space and park improvements to Bloomfield. He plans to bring those same priorities to the Freeholder Board.

“I’m proud to support Carlos Pomares for Freeholder not only because of his demonstrated record of success as a Council member, but because of his strong desire to serve the people of Bloomfield and Essex County,” said Mayor Venezia. “Carlos will make an excellent addition to the Freeholder Board and I am looking forward to working with him in this new capacity.”

Pomares will be running in the June 6th primary election, where Bloomfield’s three ward council seats will also be on the ballot. Mayor Venezia recently announced the Bloomfield Democratic County Committee’s endorsed slate of Jenny Mundell for 1st Ward Council, Councilman Nick Joanow for 2nd Ward Council and Sarah Cruz for 3rd Ward Council.
