Booker Statement on Death of New Jersey West Point Cadet

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) issued the following statement in response to the death of Cadet Christopher James “CJ” Morgan, the West Point cadet who was tragically killed on Thursday ahead of a training exercise. Morgan was from West Orange, New Jersey.

“My deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of West Point Cadet CJ Morgan. It is always tragic when a life ends too early, but in the short time he had, CJ dedicated himself to his country and leaves behind a legacy of courage and sacrifice. He embodied the best of what New Jersey—and our country—has to offer, and represented our state with distinction at West Point. His passing is not just a terrible loss to his family, friends, and classmates, but for our entire country.

“A grateful nation can never repay the debt we owe to Cadet Morgan or his family. All we can do – and must do – is spend each day honoring CJ’s life in the perpetual pursuit of a just and fair nation. Our men and women in uniform and their families bear the heaviest of all burdens, and in this time of sadness and grief, my thoughts and prayers are with Cadet Morgan’s family and friends.”
