Borough of Dunellen and Dunellen School District Approve an Historic Shared Services Agreement
The Borough of Dunellen and the Dunellen School District have reached an accord on a Shared Services Agreement that will provide an efficient and cost-saving mechanism for overseeing, maintaining, and repairing buildings and recreation facilities that are jointly used by both agencies.
Mayor Jason Cilento noted, “This Agreement will delineate the responsibilities and fiscal accountability for buildings, grounds and facilities in Columbia Park, McCoy Park, Morecraft Park, and the John P. Faber School playing field.” He continued by noting the importance of this agreement by not only enhancing the Borough and School relationship, but also as a cost-savings measure for the Borough by stating, “We estimate that both the Borough and the District will save money through joint planning, administrative coordination and the sharing of maintenance personnel.”
The Agreement was mutually fostered by Dunellen Mayor Jason F. Cilento and Dunellen School Superintendent Gene Mosley, with the assistance of Recreation Director Alexander Miller, Council President Kenneth Bayer, Councilwoman Stacy Narvesen, Athletic Director Dave DeNapoli, and School Board President Jeff Portik.
“The Board of Education is happy to enter into this agreement with the Borough,” Gene Mosley said. He continued, “We hope it ushers in an era of mutual respect and cooperation that will benefit all of the citizens of Dunellen and serve as a model of civic engagement.”
Buildings and resources under the purview of the Agreement include, in Columbia Park, the Tennis Courts, parking lot, Senior Center and attached Field House, Concession Stand, Grandstand and Press Box, Football Field, Scoreboard, football practice field, field lighting, running track, baseball fields and park landscaping; the Little League field in McCoy Park; playing field in Morecraft Park; and the ball field at John P. Faber School. Furthermore, the Agreement establishes allocated utility costs. Criteria for shared costs include facilities ownership, percentage of use, and professional competency.
The goal of the Agreement is to streamline the mechanism used for managing borough structures and assets and coordinating how to best ensure that these valuable capital items so essential to the athletic and recreation well-being of our residents are kept in peak condition through synchronized supervision and management. We all believe that this will be the start of a very fruitful and beneficial partnership.
