BOROUGH OF PROSPECT PARK MOURNS THE LOSS

OF FORMER POLICE CHIEF ANTHONY VERHAGE

 

(PROSPECT PARK) – The Borough of Prospect Park is deeply saddened by the loss of former Police Chief and Volunteer Fireman Anthony VerHage who passed away on April 13, 2018 at the age of 82. Embodying qualities of bravery and commitment to public safety, VerHage served as member of the Prospect Park Police Department for 14 years from 1956 to 1970 before being promoted to Police Chief in 1970 serving until 1981 for a total of 25 years. He also served as a member for a total of 11 years in the Prospect Park Volunteer Fire Department from 1957 to 1961 and then again in 1974 to 1981.

 

Chief VerHage leaves a lasting legacy for his many contributions to the community, keeping the Borough protected and secure. Mayor Khairullah believes, “Chief VerHage comes from a long line of public servants who have been serving our Borough since its inception. We send our deepest condolences to his family members in Prospect Park and around the nation.”

 

Mayor Khairullah has ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff in memory of Chief VerHage.  We extend our sincere thoughts and prayers to Chief VerHage’s loved ones during this time.
