Governor Mikie Sherrill continues to insult the intelligence of New Jersey voters with her latest attempt to paper over a growing election integrity disaster of her own making. Instead of confronting the facts, she has chosen obfuscation, deflection, and a desperate effort to shift the narrative away from the hard truth: her administration inherited a broken system, delayed full transparency, and is now scrambling as the numbers of improperly registered noncitizens keep climbing.

Chairwoman Elizabeth Preffer stated:

“Governor Sherrill’s response is pure political theater. While she lectures Republicans about ‘weaponizing’ the issue, thousands of people who answered ‘no’ to the citizenship question were still added to New Jersey’s voter rolls. That is not a minor glitch—it is a systemic failure that threatens the integrity of every election in this state. The people of Gloucester Township and New Jersey deserve accountability, not excuses and finger-pointing at Washington.”

Executive Director Tom Crone delivered the clearest indictment of the administration’s conduct:

“This was never just a simple software error that Magically appeared and disappeared. The Sherrill administration is engaged in a deliberate cover-up. They sat on the problem, slow-walked disclosure, and are still trying to minimize an ever-growing list of illegal aliens who were illegally placed on the voter rolls. The numbers keep rising—thousands improperly registered, hundreds who may have voted, and more cases surfacing outside their carefully narrowed timeline. Every day they refuse a full, independent, statewide audit is another day they protect a compromised system instead of protecting the legal voters of New Jersey.”

Crone continued:

“When the administration claims the problem is contained while county records and further reviews keep turning up additional improper registrations, that is not transparency—that is damage control. The cover-up is the story. The growing number of illegal aliens found on our voter rolls is the scandal. And the Governor’s refusal to confront either is the betrayal of every citizen who expects free and fair elections.”

The Gloucester Township Republican Committee demands an immediate, independent, statewide audit of New Jersey’s voter rolls that examines the full scope of noncitizen registrations—not just the narrow window the administration prefers to discuss. Anything less is an admission that the integrity of our elections remains secondary to political self-preservation.

Election integrity is not a partisan weapon. It is a foundational requirement of self-government. Governor Sherrill’s continued obfuscation only deepens the crisis she has bungled.
