Bridgewater Announces Amnesty Period for Building Permits and Inspections
Bridgewater, NJ – During the month of February, Bridgewater is offering an amnesty period for outstanding building permits and inspections. If you have done any work on your home or property that required building permits and inspections, and did not secure them from the Township, you can contact the Township Code Enforcement Office and apply for the permits retroactively without fear of a fine or penalty being issued.
While no penalties or fees will be assessed, residents must still pay for the required permits and inspections. It is the charge of the Township Code Enforcement officials to make certain that construction projects are in accordance with the Uniform Construction Code of New Jersey and Bridgewater Township’s ordinances which help to ensure the safety of all new construction and alteration projects.
“I hope that residents, who find themselves in this position, take advantage of this limited duration program,” said Councilman Michael Kirsh. “It is not uncommon to have the avoidance of an inspection turn into a major headache down the road for a homeowner. It is mutually beneficial to residents and the Township that these issues are addressed, even after the fact.”
This amnesty is limited to the month of February and normal enforcement of these violation will resume after the end of the month.
We encourage residents who have questions on whether their work required a building permit and/or an inspection to reach out directly to the Code Enforcement staff at bwtcode@bridgewaternj.gov o r by phone at 908-725-6300 ext. 5565 and they will be happy to assist you.
