CAIR-NJ, ICNA CSJ and IAMC to Join Sept. 27 Rally for Kashmir at the UN on Day of Modi Speech

(SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ, 9/23/2019) – On Friday, September 27, the New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NJ), ICNA Council for Social Justice (ICNA CSJ) and the Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC) will join an inter-faith coalition of civil rights activists and allies at a protest in front of the United Nations building in New York City in opposition to the Indian government’s renewed oppression of Kashmir, a Muslim-majority region of India.

 

On that day, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the architect of the lockdown and occupation of the Jammu and Kashmir, is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly.

 

The protest is co-sponsored by CAIR-NJ, the ICNA CSJ, the IAMC and other allies and organizations.

 

Protesters will call on elected officials to stand against India’s occupation of Kashmir, demand the immediate restoration of mobile and landlines in the region and call for an end to the curfew and for the complete demilitarization of the region.
