Candidate for Sheriff Gallo Responds recent lawsuits costing Middlesex County Taxpayers Millions of Dollars due to the failed leadership of Sheriff Mildred “Millie” Scott.

I was recently called upon by a local news paper in New Brunswick to comment on a Lawsuit that was awarded to Retired Sheriff’s Officer Joseph Iko in the amount of $885,000 plus Legal fees, Totaling over One Million in Taxpayer Dollars. Officer Iko was harassed and emotionally distressed for years while the Sheriff allowed this to go on ignoring his complaints. The story was never produced, in my opinion, my comment was too damaging to Sheriff Scott. However I believe my comment needed to be put out as to my Opinion on a very serious situation that burdens the Sheriff’s Department. In the past 9 years Sheriff Scott has lost well over $4.3 Million in Taxpayer Dollars due to Lawsuits with more still in the pipe. Below was my response.

“This type of Bullying should never have happened, I have publicly challenged Sheriff Scott to debate me on these types of issues among many others that effect the citizens of Middlesex County and the Sheriffs Officers with no response. Sheriff Scott is depreciating the Sheriffs Department. She should have taken the lead on this from the beginning, if she cannot protect her own Officers how can she protect the People of Middlesex County. This is another example of Party over People and these Lawsuits are costing the Taxpayers Millions of dollars with lawsuits ranging from, Bullying, Sexual Harassment and Gender Discrimination. I have heard complaints from multiple Sheriffs Officers about how they are not being treated fairly, and she only has a Q & A event with her Officers once every 3 years before an election and doesn’t really answer any questions. Once I’m elected as Sheriff of Middlesex County my main priority will be to restore the prestige of the Sheriffs Department both Internally and Publicly. I pledge to be on the ground with my Officers and the People of Middlesex County. Not hiding behind my Under-Sheriff, Captain or lieutenants.”
