Chairman Jones Slams Trump, NJGOP for Govt Shutdown and Healthcare Chaos

Trenton, NJ—This week, despite Republican control of the White House and both chambers of Congress, federal government funding lapsed after Donald Trump and New Jersey Republicans refused to get serious about avoiding a shutdown and stopping our health insurance costs from skyrocketing.

Meanwhile, Democrats of the NJ delegation were ready to work to ensure ACA healthcare premiums don’t double for over 513,000 residents and that over 300,000 people don’t lose their health insurance entirely in New Jersey.

Voters across New Jersey know this is a Trump Shutdown. After voting to cut healthcare for millions of Americans, Republicans are now trying to raise healthcare costs for millions more.

In response to Donald Trump and NJGOP congressmen forcing a government shutdown, NJ Democratic State Committee Chair LeRoy J. Jones Jr. released the following statement:

“Donald Trump, Jack Ciattarelli, and the NJGOP have no plans to lower costs or address the top concerns of New Jersey families. Instead, they’re focused on playing political games and pushing an agenda that is ripping healthcare away from people and skyrocketing premiums. Trump and his loyalists in Congress refused to negotiate. They refused to utilize their power to help their constituents. They refused to do their jobs and now the government is shut down and Americans will suffer as a result. Meanwhile, Jack has proudly supported these disastrous healthcare cuts and said there’s nothing he disagrees with the president on. Democrats are the only leaders standing up for the health and economic well-being of our families. Republicans must come to the table and end this shutdown.”
