Chief Zebrowski Concludes Term as President of the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – July xx 2022 – Sayreville Police Chief John Zebrowski completed his one-year term as president of the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP), expressing appreciation to the members and staff who supported his many community-building initiatives.

Zebrowski’s term will be remembered for his strong advocacy and outreach on behalf of the police chiefs, continually underscoring and celebrating the efforts of law enforcement, while building new bridges with the public.

“Over the past year, we mapped out an agenda that avoided setting specific benchmarks, choosing to concentrate on opportunities to change the overall discussion on the state of policing in New Jersey,” Zebrowski said. “Often, we felt excluded and all-to-often heard half-hearted attempts to praise our profession. This remains a discussion that directly impacts our ability to manage, lead and keep our officers safe. We choose to take positive steps to control the narrative by highlighting the many professional successes within our ranks.”

The chief said the NJSACOP has a strong advocacy arm in Trenton, where the association created many more genuine opportunities over the past year to impact the legislative process by sharing expertise, knowledge and insights.

“More policymakers sought out our opinion for full review of current laws. There were also more opportunities for collaboration with our attorney general’s office on guidelines and regulations,” Zebrowski said. “We’ve also opened new doors, such as with White House policy makers related to the President’s executive orders on public safety. We have also had substantive and collaborative discussions with Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) on grant opportunities and with a host of legislators regarding topics that are a priority to us.

“I’m particularly proud of our outreach efforts that have elevated the profile of our association within our individual communities, as well as on the state and national level,” he added. “And by doing so, we strengthened our reputation as a progressive leadership organization in policymaking, management principles and leadership skills for police executives and law enforcement.”

NJSACOP Executive Director Mitch Sklar, who serves as the co-host of the ongoing “Chief Talk” podcast that Zebrowski unveiled during his term, described the outgoing president as an inspiration.

“John’s dedication to the organization and to all his colleagues, as well as the energy he committed in his role as a president, has been an inspiration for me,” Sklar said, adding Zebrowski will bring that same energy to his new role as chairman of the NJSACOP foundation.

“It’s been a personal and professional honor and pleasure for me to work with John during his term,” Sklar said. “I consider him not just a colleague, but a friend and a great co-host for a podcast. John has represented our organization during these extraordinarily difficult times in a manner that brings credit to the entire membership.”

Zebrowski, a lifelong Sayreville resident, is a graduate of Seton Hall School of Law and a practicing attorney in civil matters unrelated to policing. He became a sworn officer in August 1988 in Sayreville.

At the annual NJSACOP conference, on June 29 in Atlantic City, a new president was sworn in for a one-year term: Stafford police Chief Thomas Dellane.
