Passaic County Democrats Select Aleksandra Tasic as Nominee for County Commissioner
PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ (August 5, 2026)-- Members of the Passaic County Democratic Committee tonight selected Councilwoman Aleksandra Tasic, Esq. of Haledon as the Democratic nominee for the unexpired term on the Passaic County Board of County Commissioners created by the retirement of Commissioner John W. Bartlett.
Tasic, an attorney and member of the Haledon Borough Council, was supported by the County Committee municipal leaders following an open application and interview process that attracted a strong field of candidates committed to public service. She was elected by the county committee membership.
Passaic County Democratic Chairman John Currie congratulated Tasic on her selection and thanked all of the candidates who participated in the process.
“Tonight, our County Committee selected an outstanding young talent that has already demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and a deep commitment to her community,” said Currie. “Alek Tasic has the experience, judgment, and work ethic to serve the residents of Passaic County well, and I congratulate her on earning the confidence of our County Committee.”
Currie also thanked the other candidates who sought the nomination.
“I want to thank Derya Taskin, Dr. Cory McKinney, and Dania Martinez for stepping forward and participating in this process. Our party is stronger because of their willingness to become involved, and I hope each of them will continue to play an active role in our Democratic organization.”
Currie said Democrats are united and ready to focus on the general election.
“Our process brought forward several outstanding candidates, and tonight our Democratic organization came together behind Alek,” Currie said. “Now our focus turns to November. Together, we will work to elect Aleksandra Tasic, Surrogate Judge Zoila Cassanova, Commissioners Nick Veliky and Orlando Cruz, and continue building on the progress Passaic County has made for working families, seniors, veterans, and every community we serve.”
Tasic will appear on the November General Election ballot as the Democratic nominee for the unexpired County Commissioner term.
Tasic thanked the members of the County Committee for their confidence and said she is ready to begin the campaign for November.
