Clinton Town Mayor Janice Kovach Announces Reelection Bid

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Town of Clinton, NJ, April 3, 2019 — Mayor Janice Kovach has announced her re-election campaign for Mayor, Town of Clinton as well as the re-election campaign of Councilman Michael Humphrey. Primary Day is Tuesday, June 4, 2019, and voting for the Town of Clinton will take place at the Clinton Community Center between 6:00 AM and 8:00 PM.

For the past eight years, Mayor Kovach has tirelessly served the community here in the Town of Clinton. Upon taking office in 2011, Mayor Kovach faced multiple sources of economic difficulty; from a municipal court that was losing approximately $100,000 per year, to a tax appeal process that cost the Town almost $500,000 over a multi-year span. Mayor Kovach stemmed the losses by coming up with creative and pro-active solutions, including entering into a shared services agreement for our court system, instituting a town wide re-valuation, and hiring a new Tax Assessor.

Thanks to her efforts, the Town has a healthy surplus, a plan to pay down debt and a vision for future infrastructure needs. Under the guidance of Mayor Kovach, the Town has navigated complex issues surrounding affordable housing, water infrastructure planning, and redevelopment planning. Our ratable base has increased, and our bond rating from S&P has improved to AA.

Mayor Kovach has energized the Town with her commitment to public service, willingness to tackle difficult issues, ability to build consensus, and transparency with the community. “Clinton is my home, its where my husband and I chose to raise our family – to be able to give back to our community is the ultimate in public service. I thank everyone who has continued to believe in me and support me and ask for your vote to serve four more years.”

Councilman Michael Humphrey has lived in the Town of Clinton for 21 years. Upon taking office in 2018, Councilman Humphrey re-invigorated efforts to improve the Town’s communication and technology infrastructure. Councilman Humphrey now co-chairs the Town’s Communication Committee and has built consensus around an exciting 2019 agenda that includes a modernized Clinton website, a magazine-style town newsletter, and a news-alert system for text and email. When completed, these efforts will provide residents and business owners with easy access to important news and information, receive emergency alerts, and communicate with town officials.

As a salute to the rich history of military service by Clinton residents, Councilman Humphrey is working with community members to create a new Veteran’s Memorial in Clinton. Councilman Humphrey is committed to honoring the members of our community and helping lead us into the future.

Councilman Humphrey is an invaluable member of the Town Council and in his short time has already brought energy, excitement and commitment to the Town to the forefront. “Every neighbor I get to know adores Clinton, with all of it’s rich history and small-town charm. My vision is to bring us even closer together and work hard on efforts that will make us even prouder of our wonderful town.”
