Coffee with the Congressman: Norcross to Host a Discussion with Students & Young Professionals
CHERRY HILL, NJ – This Tuesday, February 20, Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) will host a discussion in Oaklyn, NJ with students and young professionals to discuss why they feel their futures are not secure.
Instead of saving and investing in the future, like their parents did in their twenties and thirties, many are stuck with crushing student loans. The group will talk about ways to fix the rigged economy, as well as social issues that millennials care about.
“When I talk to my daughter, sons, grandchildren and their friends, I keep hearing a common refrain: ‘We aren’t going to have as secure a future as our parents had.’ That’s tough to hear, and we need to come together to make our economy work for these young professionals,” said Congressman Norcross, a member of the House Education and the Workforce Committee. “College costs have ballooned over the past 20 years – at a rate that’s outpaced inflation – and affordability is an issue on everyone’s mind. No one should have to graduate college a quarter million dollars in debt. Instead of an investment in their future, these costs are preventing a generation from achieving other goals.
He added: “To make matters worse, right now, our economy is rigged. If you come from a family with trust funds, you’re doing well. But for most people in the workforce, it’s a struggle. This forum will provide an opportunity for us to discuss solutions to raise wages, make college more affordable and ensure the next generation’s future is bright.”
