(TRENTON) – Protecting consumers from surprise out-of-network medical bills, testimony on the impact of marijuana legalization, tuition equality for undocumented immigrants and opioid warning labels top Monday’s Assembly committee hearings.
Also on tap: regulating claw machines, encouraging an electric vehicle charging infrastructure, protecting consumers hit by the Equifax breach and extending the Urban Enterprise Zones in Bridgeton, Camden, Newark, Plainfield and Trenton.
Testimony is also slated on the Taskforce on Sexual Assault’s final report – Addressing Campus Sexual Violence; Creating Safer Higher Education Communities.

- The Assembly Regulatory Oversight, Reform and Federal Relations Committee will meet at 1 p.m. to take testimony on the impact of prospective marijuana legalization on the public health, criminal justice system and economy in New Jersey.
- A-3467 (Schaer) – Allows certain students including undocumented immigrants who meet certain criteria to qualify for State student financial aid programs. 10 a.m. Higher Education.
- A-3292 (Armato/Mazzeo/Vainieri Huttle) – Requires prescription opioid medications include warning sticker advising patients of risk of addition and overdose. 10 a.m. Health and Senior Services.
- A-1366 (Kennedy/Holley) – Requires Legalized Games of Chance Control Commission to regulate amusement games using crane or claw machines. 10 a.m. Tourism, Gaming and the Arts.
- A-3549 (Pintor Marin/Mukherji/Gusciora) – Extends duration of urban enterprise zones for additional 10 years; specifics permissible use of funds; and A-3551 (Pintor Marin) – Requires NJ UEZ Authority to assess and issue report on urban enterprise zone program. 2 p.m. Commerce and Economic Development.
- A-360 (Chiaravalloti) – Prohibits consumer reporting agencies from charging certain fees related to security freezes on consumer reports. 10 a.m. Consumer Affairs.
- The Assembly Higher Education Committee at 10 a.m. will take testimony from on the Taskforce on Sexual Assault’s final report issued in June, 2017 – Addressing Campus Sexual Violence; Creating Safer Higher Education Communities.
- A-1371 (Kennedy/Johnson/Eustace/Zwicker/Benson) – Encourages local units to plan for electric vehicle charging infrastructure. 2 p.m. Housing and Community Development.
- A-2169 (Mazzeo/Armato/Kennedy) – Criminalizes the manufacture, sale, and possession of controlled dangerous substance U-47700, known as U-4 or “Pink.” 1:30 p.m. Law and Public Safety.
- A-3251 (Taliaferro) – Authorizes impoundment of all-terrain vehicles and dirt bikes for certain crimes and offenses. 1:30 p.m. Law and Public Safety.
