Communications Workers Association (CWA) Comes Out Strong to Support Mayor Ras J. Baraka’s Re-Election Bid
Union Represents Thousands of Newarkers Locally and More Than 55,000 Workers in NJ State, County and Municipal Government
Newark, N.J. – Today, the Communications Workers of America, New Jersey’s largest public workers union, announced that they will endorse Mayor Ras J. Baraka for his re-election bid.
“Our members are once again proud to endorse Ras Baraka for Mayor,” said Ken McNamara, Presidents of the CWA Local 1037. “Mayor Baraka fought special interest groups that pursued an anti-worker agenda and delivered victories for our members and their families. We understand the importance of coming out strong and early for leaders who come out strong for us. We all know that the stakes are too high to take any election for granted, Newark is too important to our members for us allow this City to fall into the wrong hands. This Mayor is the leader that Newark needs, and our members will work tirelessly to ensure that he gets re-elected.”
“I am humbled to have the CWA’s support once again,” said Mayor Baraka. “Together, as we did four years ago, we ran on the belief that working families in every community deserve to have their voices lifted. I have been proud to fight for Newarkers and I intend to do so for another four years.”
Mayor Baraka has pursued progressive labor-related initiatives. He fought vigorously for paid sick leave, is committed to ensuring that workers obtain a $15 minimum wage, and has fought the Trump administration as it continues to target immigrant communities.
