Communications Workers of America District 1 Mobilizes Historic Electoral Mobilization Effort, Helping Mikie Sherrill’s Victory in New Jersey Gubernatorial Race
Trenton, New Jersey – November 12, 2025 – Communications Workers of America (CWA) District 1 is celebrating an unprecedented member mobilization effort that energized voters and played a significant role in Governor-Elect Sherrill’s decisive victory and the election of 55 out of 57 endorsed pro-labor Assembly candidates.
CWA members built on a deep foundation of member-to-member organizing to execute a massive field operation. The Union’s political program far exceeded its ambitious goals, resulting in direct voter contact that turned the tide for pro-worker candidates.
"Our members built this victory—one door, one phone call, and one text at a time," said Billy Gallagher, CWA District 1 Assistant to the Vice President. "They knew what was at stake for working families. By standing up for union rights and worker protections, we’ve proven that organized labor is the driving force for a better future. Governor-Elect Sherrill's win is a testament to that power."
"Our members were energized and ready to mobilize because Sherrill’s campaign spoke directly to the core issue of our time: economic inequality” said Anna-Marta Visky, CWA District 1's New Jersey Political and Field Director. “Framing affordability as a matter of economic justice allowed us to connect powerfully with voters on the doors. This message resonated deeply with both our membership and the broader electorate, creating a unified drive for a more equitable New Jersey.”
The massive volunteer effort by CWA members included:
  • 3,526 total volunteer shifts completed, smashing the union’s goal by 121%.
  • 3,136 member shifts with Central Labor Councils for neighborhood canvassing.
  • 311 dedicated phone bankers making direct voter contact.
  • 59 text bankers
  • 5,582 peer-to-peer text messages sent to chase Vote-By-Mail ballots.
This historic mobilization contributed to a resounding victory up and down the ballot. Alongside Governor-Elect Mikie Sherrill, 55 out of 57 CWA-endorsed pro-labor Assembly candidates won their races. In addition, six CWA members won races for public offices including Lawrence Township Council and Mercer County Commissioner.
CWA District 1 now looks to channel the power of this electoral success into governing. The Union is committed to working with the Sherrill administration and the legislature to drive a pro-worker agenda, including fighting for healthcare reform, secure pensions, good jobs, and a more affordable and accountable state government.
