Community Turns Out for Grand Opening of Campaign HQ for Councilwoman-at-Large Denise Wilkerson and 4th Ward Councilwoman Cindy Thomas

Roselle, NJ – March 27, 2025 - On Tuesday, March 25, a broad cross-section of Roselle came together to celebrate the opening of the campaign headquarters for Councilwoman-at-Large Denise Wilkerson and 4th Ward Councilwoman Cindy Thomas at 129 Chestnut Street. The rally marked not only the launch of the headquarters but the unwavering community support behind the Stronger Together team.

Residents, business owners, faith-based leaders, and young people packed the space, taking time to tour the new office, sign up to volunteer, and enjoy complimentary refreshments. The atmosphere reflected a campaign rooted in community, accessibility, and progress.

"Our team has proven that we will put in the work to get things done. We just built a $17 million library that no one believed would come to fruition. We stayed the course, did the work, and we got it done," said Councilwoman Wilkerson. Reflecting on her tenure, she added, "When I got here in 2018, there was a pile of dirt in the middle of Arminio field. We committed as a team to build that field and finish it. Not only did we finish that field, but we also said our kids deserve a field house, and so we built too. Together, we did that."

Wilkerson, a long-standing community advocate and seasoned public servant, used the moment to reiterate her deep commitment to progress through purposeful leadership. "This campaign is not just about re-election. It’s about continuing the work we've started, making sure every neighborhood is seen, every child is supported, and every resident has a voice at the table."

Councilwoman Thomas shared her motivation for entering public service: "I am a heart-first resident, a minority female business owner, and a mother. I started off in politics when someone asked me to run for school board. I didn’t think our schools were offering our kids what they deserved, and I knew my voice was needed. So I ran, and I won."

She continued, "This election is about delivering on promises, standing up for our families, and ensuring Roselle grows with dignity and purpose. Denise and I have done the work, and we’re just getting started."

Mayor Donald Shaw spoke to the transformation of Roselle’s leadership under Wilkerson and Thomas. “You have two women who sit on our council who are strong, resilient, passionate, and deeply committed to this community. They work tirelessly to solve problems and create opportunity. Not long ago, developers bypassed us, and grant funding was out of reach. But under their leadership, we strapped up our boots and got to work. People used to drive right past Roselle. Now, they stop in—because we are a destination borough. That’s the kind of leadership we need to keep moving forward. That’s why I’m proud to support Denise Wilkerson and Cindy Thomas.”

Senator Joseph Cryan emphasized the importance of unity in moving Roselle forward. “For once, we have a mayor and council who get it. We can’t go back. Let’s stay the course with people who truly care, not about their name in the paper or social media clout, but about doing the work. That’s why I’m asking you to help elect Cindy Thomas and Denise Wilkerson."

The event also featured remarks from 1st Ward Councilwoman Isabel Sousa, who praised the candidates' record of service and community impact. "Councilwoman Wilkerson and Councilwoman Thomas have led with consistency, courage, and compassion. They are not new to the work. They’re trusted, tested, and ready to keep delivering for Roselle."

The rally set the tone for an energized campaign season focused on stability, accountability, and real results for the people of Roselle. As they seek re-election, Wilkerson and Thomas are championing policies centered around neighborhood investment, public safety, youth development, and government transparency. With the Stronger Together platform, they are calling on residents to not only vote, but to stay engaged, stay informed, and help shape the future of Roselle.
