Rebecca Bennett’s Statement on Tom Kean Jr. Remaining Silent Once Again As Trump Works to Withhold Funds from the Gateway Tunnel

SOMERVILLE, NJ — Rebecca Bennett released the following statement in response to Congressman Tom Kean Jr. once again remaining silent while President Trump appeals a decision to release previously frozen federal Gateway Project funding:

“Tom Kean Jr. has repeatedly shown that he will not fight for New Jersey when we need him the most. As the President once again works to withhold funding for the Gateway Tunnel, Tom Kean Jr. remains silent. Finishing the Gateway Tunnel will increase economic development in the district, bring one-seat ride to the Raritan Valley Line, lower commute times, reduce traffic, bring good union jobs to New Jersey, and help reduce air pollution. I’m running because we deserve independent leadership who will fight for us in Washington. While Tom Kean Jr. has spent his time in Congress focused on his own stock portfolio, I’ll be laser focused on working across the aisle to make sure that we get Gateway done,” said Rebecca Bennett.

Let’s not forget: This isn’t the first time Donald Trump has tried to illegally hold up this funding, and it’s not the first time Tom Kean Jr. has failed to stand up for New Jerseyans. If that wasn’t enough, this tunnel could have been done already if Chris Christie and Tom Kean Jr. hadn’t canceled the ARC Tunnel years ago.
