Congressman Kim Statement on Meeting
with Afghan Ambassador to the United States

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) released the following statement on his meeting with Afghanistan’s Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Roya Rahmani.

“I want to thank Ambassador Rahmani for her time and insight into the situation in Afghanistan. The Afghan government, elected through a democratic process that puts its faith in the people, has been sidelined by the now failed efforts to bring peace and stability to this important country. I would encourage this Administration to reengage with the Afghan government. The United States and Afghanistan have a shared interest worthy of a shared commitment to security and stability. This Administration should strongly support Afghanistan’s upcoming elections, and work as a partner to find long-term solutions that provide both countries a path to a sustainable and secure future.”

Congressman Kim is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, where he serves the Vice Chair of the Subcommittee on Readiness and as a Member of the Subcommittee on Intelligence and Emerging Threats and Capabilities. Prior to his time in Congress, Congressman Kim served as Director for Iraq at the National Security Council under President Obama, and worked as a strategic adviser to General David Petraeus and General John Allen in Kabul, Afghanistan.
