Congressman Sires’ Statement on the Administration’s Elimination of Funding for Special Olympics

(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Sires released the following statementstat regarding the Administration’s decision to eliminate $17.6 million in funding for Special Olympics education programs:

“The Administration’s decision to zero-out funding for Special Olympics education programs is cruel and unfair to the thousands of individuals with disabilities who have benefitted from these programs. Over the years, it has been my great pleasure to meet and speak with a number of Special Olympic athletes from New Jersey whose stories inspire me. The school programs which this money funds, enables youth both with and without disabilities to gain important life skills in a community of tolerance and acceptance. I will work with my colleagues in Congress to ensure that this unique program remains funded so it can continue its important work.”
