Senator Kristin Corrado (R- Bergen, Essex, Morris, Passaic) released the following statement on Equal Pay Day:

“I am honored to stand with women across New Jersey in the fight for equal pay for equal work,” Corrado said. “While we have made significant strides, there is still much more we can do. A person’s gender should not be a determining factor in their salary. That’s just common sense – and it’s something we should all agree on. Let’s continue to work together on a bipartisan basis to ensure pay discrimination becomes a thing of the past.”

Sen. Corrado has been a fierce advocate for pay equity legislation. Despite having introduced her own equal pay bill, Senator Corrado proudly voted “yes” on the Diane B. Allen Equal Pay Act, which aims to toughen protections against employment bias and support equal pay for women. The bill passed the Legislature last month. The Governor announced today that he will soon sign the bill into law. That bill was named for Senator Corrado’s colleague, former Senator Diane Allen, who experienced wage discrimination during her career as a television anchor, prior to her 22 years of service in the New Jersey Legislature.

The advances New Jersey lawmakers have made on a bipartisan basis have been lauded by local, state, and national media outlets.

“Our daughters should learn about wage discrimination in their history class, not experience it as a reality in the contemporary working world,” Corrado added. “I applaud all of the employers who have written fair paychecks. I hope this legislation will encourage everyone to do the same. I look forward to finally seeing strong equal pay protections signed into law.”
