Speaker Coughlin Announces Recommended Appointment to the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission

(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin announced Friday that he has recommended Sam Delgado to the Governor to serve on the newly established Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC). Delgado is a retired Vice President of External Affairs for Verizon New Jersey and a retired Marine Corps Reserve Combat Communications Officer with 20 years’ experience having served in the Republic of Haiti monitoring human rights abuses. His military awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal.

“Sam Delgado’s professional and military service is outstanding and I strongly believe he is the best person to serve on the Cannabis Regulatory Commission,” said Coughlin (D-Middlesex). “Sam is an expert in the fields of community leadership, business management, strategic planning, supplier diversity and regulatory policy. He will bring these talents to the Commission and is a valued addition.”

In addition to his career in the military and at Verizon, Delgado assisted in earthquake relief efforts in Haiti in 2010 as a liaison for Doctors without Borders, the Haitian Government, U.S. Military Units and Non-Government Organizations. Delgado also co-chaired Newark Mayor Ras Baraka’s “Housing and Economic Development” transition team, past chairman of the Newark Regional Business Partnership, and a founding board member of the New Jersey Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

“I am honored to have been chosen by Speaker Coughlin to serve as a member of the Cannabis Regulatory Commission,” said Delgado. “I am excited to work with my fellow Commissioners to usher in a new era of economic opportunity, social justice and equity for the emerging cannabis industry in the State of New Jersey and look forward to serving the residents of New Jersey in this capacity.”

Delgado is a graduate of Marist College with a degree in Political Science, a graduate of the Marine Corps Basic School in Quantico, Virginia and a 2004 Lead New Jersey Fellow. He resides in Perth Amboy.
