Councilman Juan Perez to run on Mayor Davis’ Ticket

BAYONNE, NJ — Councilman at-Large Juan Perez will run for re-election on Mayor Jimmy Davis’ ticket in next year’s municipal election, the campaign announced today. Elected in 2014 along with Mayor Davis, Councilman Perez has a record of working to attract beneficial new development and improve quality of life and public safety, areas where Bayonne is now moving forward after years of neglect. Councilman Perez is the first Hispanic ever elected to the Bayonne City Council.

“Councilman Juan Perez has been a dedicated public servant at multiple levels of government and like myself comes from a law enforcement background, which gives him a strong insight into what our community needs,” said Mayor Davis. “I’m proud to once again be running with Juan and I look forward to working closely with him to spread the message that Bayonne is moving forward and we can’t turn back now.”

Councilman Perez previously served as Hudson County Sheriff, managing a department of over 300 sworn officers and providing policing services throughout the county. Prior to his time in elected office, Councilman Perez’s law enforcement career included 26 years in the New Jersey State Police, eventually rising to the level of Captain. He is the founder and past president of the Hispanic Law Enforcement Association, past board of trustee and vice chair of the Jersey City Medical Center board and a lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol. Perez has lived in Bayonne for nearly 20 years.

“Bayonne is moving in the right direction with Mayor Davis and our team and we can’t afford to turn back now,” said Councilman Perez. “Our city is on the verge of a new era of prosperity that will improve the lives of every resident, but that can all be erased if we don’t have the right leadership in city hall. I will do everything I can to prevent that from happening.”

Mayor Davis kicked off his re-election campaign last month in front of a packed room with hundreds of supporters as well as Democratic leaders from throughout Hudson County. Council President Sharon Ashe-Nadrowski was the first announced member of his ticket, and additional members of his campaign team and council slate in the coming weeks.
