COUNCILMEMBERS JAMES SOLOMON AND YOUSEF J. SALEH CONDEMN ISLAMOPHOBIC ATTACKS AGAINST JUDICIAL NOMINEE AND JERSEY CITY RESIDENT ADEEL MANGI, PASS JERSEY RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF HIS CONFIRMATION
JERSEY CITY, NJ – In response to an onslaught of right-wing, Islamophobic attacks against President Joe Biden’s appointment of Jersey City resident Adeel Mangi to the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, Councilmembers James Solomon and Yousef J. Saleh released the following statements:
“It is beyond the pale that Senate Democrats are quietly murmuring that Adeel Mangi won’t get confirmed to the federal bench, instead of uniting and ushering in his confirmation. Mr. Mangi is a brilliant lawyer whose firm belief in our Constitution and the right of every American to receive a fair and impartial trial has guided every legal decision he has made. To question his exemplary record reeks of racism and Islamophobia, and while Republicans may not be above that, Democrats should be. As such, I am proud to co-sponsor a resolution with Councilman Yousef Saleh calling for the Senate to confirm Mr. Mangi. There would be no better judge to champion the law in the Third Circuit, than one of Jersey City’s best” said Ward E Councilman James Solomon.
“The islamophobic attacks against the professionally renowned and respected Adeel Mangi by a handful of gremlins in the Senate should not be tolerated. This is a clarion call for ALL Democrats and any Republicans of conscience and principle to stand up and fight against these McCarthyesque attacks and show the world what American values and the US Constitution stands for. I am proud to cosponsor this legislation with Councilman Solomon and defend Adeel Mangi, one of the pillars in our Jersey City community and especially in the field of law” said Ward D Councilman Yousef J. Saleh.
If confirmed, Mr. Adeel Mangi would mark a historic milestone as the first Muslim American to serve as a federal appellate court judge, thus contributing to the much-needed diversification of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, which has been notably lacking in representation.
