Cruz-Perez, Pou and Lopez Applaud Census Grants Aimed to Ensure Complete Count in 2020
(TRENTON) – Responding to an announcement from the Department of State that it will offer grants to counties and nonprofits to support 2020 Census outreach efforts, Senator Nilsa Cruz-Perez (D-Camden, Gloucester), Senator Nellie Pou (D-Bergen, Passaic) and Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez (D-Middlesex) released the following joint statement:
“The Department of State’s recent announcement of Census based grant opportunities marks New Jersey’s commitment to an accurate and complete count. Outreach will be a key component of successful Census efforts and as the 2020 Census rapidly approaches, the State’s non-profit organizations and counties need to begin their efforts.
“Grant funding will be organized into two distinct categories focusing on non-profit, faith and community based organizations and county governments respectively. The grant program will fund outreach efforts targeting hard-to-count (HTC) populations as well as initiatives to educate the public and encourage participation. Grant applications can be found on the New Jersey Complete Count Commission’s web-page https://nj.gov/state/njcounts.shtml and are due October 31.”
