DeBenedetto Calls on Fisher to Support and Adhere to Hoboken Pay-to-Play Reform Laws

Says, she is “Disappointed that Fisher Voted to Table a Resolution Doing Just That”

Nora Martinez DeBenedetto, a candidate for Council in the 2nd Ward, called on her opponent, Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher to vote to reaffirm Hoboken’s pay-to-play and related campaign finance reform ordinances at the next Council meeting.

Pointing to Fisher’s vote last night to table a resolution that did just that, Nora Martinez Debenedetto said, “I was disappointed that Councilwoman Fisher voted against even taking a vote on this resolution designed to reaffirm the Council’s commitment to support and adhere to laws designed to protect the integrity of our elections and our city contracting process. I call on her to support this resolution at the next Council meeting.”

DeBenedetto went on to say, “My campaign will adhere to our local laws. It is critical that Councilwoman Fisher commits to do the same.  With trading cash for votes all too prevalent in past Hoboken elections, it is especially important that Councilwoman Fisher sends a clear message that she is committed to turn the page on the corrupt politics of the past.”

DeBenedetto noted that in the mayoral election that, Councilwoman Fisher filed a complaint that Mike DeFusco was violating the Hoboken pay-to-play reform laws that were the subject of last night’s vote.https://hudsoncountyview.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Fisher-complaint.pdf.

The resolution reaffirming the pay-to-play reform laws and related campaign finance regulations, introduced by Councilmembers Doyle and Jabbour was tabled by a 6-to-3 vote at last night’s Council meeting.
