DEFUSCO STATEMENT ON GIATTINO CANDIDACY FOR HOBOKEN MAYOR

Leadership Record of Three-Term Council President Raises Concerns

Hoboken, NJIn response to the announcement yesterday by Councilwoman Jen Giattino that she will run for Mayor, 1st Ward Councilman and current Mayoral candidate Michael DeFusco issued the following statement:

“In her announcement, Councilwoman Giattino referenced serious deficiencies in the Zimmer administration, and despite rubber-stamping the mayor’s policies for years, she finally agrees there’s a need for change.  This sudden realization after three terms as Council President is incredibly convenient considering her prominent role in creating these very problems that she now wants to distance herself from.”

“In an era when partisan politics is dividing our country, we also need to guard against outside influences fracturing Hoboken and Hudson County.  As a Republican who has supported the failed policies of Chris Christie, Giattino solicited a campaign contribution from Chris Christie’s brother Todd for her most recent council run, even after her ally Dawn Zimmer’s allegations that the governor held Hurricane Sandy relief money for Hoboken as a political hostage.  These facts don’t demonstrate the honest and transparent leadership that Hoboken deserves.”
