Democrat Katie Brennan Wins Race for New Jersey State Assembly: “This is the start of a new era in Trenton”

Brennan ran as an independent, progressive Democrat on a platform of tackling the housing crisis, fixing public transit, rooting out corruption, and fighting back against Donald Trump and ICE

JERSEY CITY — Assemblywoman-elect Katie Brennan released the following statement after her landslide victory in the race to represent New Jersey’s 32nd Legislative District in the State Assembly:

“First, to the hundreds of volunteers and thousands of supporters who stood with us throughout the campaign, thank you. This is a truly historic win and it took all of us to make it happen. It’s an honor of a lifetime to represent Jersey City and Hoboken in the State House.

“We heard loud and clear that people want representatives who are really going to fight for them — not more of the same machine politics that created the problems we’re trying to fix. This is our chance to shake things up and deliver real change, and I’m ready to be an independent voice in the Legislature to make that happen. This is the start of a new era in Trenton.

“The rent is too damn high. Our transit systems are falling apart. Working families are getting squeezed while big corporations make record profits. That has to end now. We have the power to make a real difference in people’s lives and we have to use it. That means more affordable housing, fully funding NJ Transit and the PATH, and having real accountability and transparency in government.

“State government has never mattered more. The stakes are so high right now with Donald Trump coming after blue states like New Jersey. We can’t keep using the same playbook. We need to be fearless and throw out the old rules to protect our neighbors and our democracy.

“Let’s get to work.”
