DEMOCRATS CALL OUT PURDY TEAM FOR MISLEADING GALLOWAY ON AMAZON HEADQUARTERS

Public Records Request Debunks Mayor Purdy’s ‘Secret’ Talks with Amazon, Inc.

(GALLOWAY) Jim Gorman, Mary Crawford, Walead Abdrabouh, and Frank Santo, Democratic candidates for Galloway Township Council, today called out the Purdy Team for misleading Galloway Township residents when Mayor Purdy said at a Council meeting in September that the Township has been having ‘secret’ talks with Amazon for nearly a year.

“Galloway residents need elected officials who will tell them the truth, not officials who get people’s hopes up just to get re-elected,” said Gorman, Crawford, Abdrabouh, and Santo. “The fact of the matter is that the Township never had private talks with Amazon about bringing its headquarters to Galloway Township. While we wholeheartedly support Amazon coming to Galloway, for Mayor Purdy to mislead the public and make them believe this has been in the works is pretty disingenuous.”

A recent public records request by the Democrats asked Galloway Township to provide any electronic or written correspondence within the past year between the Township, Amazon, and the owner of the proposed site. The oldest correspondence that was recovered was from the day that Amazon publicly announced its nationwide search for a headquarters (page 1 of the 1st pdf), debunking the myth by Mayor Purdy and his running mates that they had any private discussions with Amazon. One email from the developer even expressed surprise about the Purdy/Amazon “talks,” which did not yield to a reply from a Township official (page 30 of the 1st pdf).

“There’s no proof of communication with Amazon because the Township simply never had communication with Amazon,” said Gorman, Crawford, Abdrabouh, and Santo. “Mayor Purdy misled Galloway about private talks with Amazon in order to gain an advantage in this election. That’s wrong. To make things up in order to get elected, or to rush things like the proposed motorcross park, is the very reason why so many people are dissatisfied with the state of our politics.”
