District 1199J of the National Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees Endorses Tahesha Way for Congress
WAYNE, NJ – Less than one week before election day, District 1199J of the National Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees (NUHHCE) today endorsed Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of State Tahesha Way in her bid to represent New Jersey's Eleventh Congressional District. The endorsement from District 1199J establishes Tahesha as one of the only labor-backed candidates in the race.

"Tahesha Way has spent her career fighting to protect working families’ access to affordable healthcare, and we're proud to support her campaign to represent NJ-11," said Craig Ford, President of District 1199J, NUHHCE, AFSCME, AFL-CIO. "At a moment when New Jerseyans are being forced to choose between making rent and paying for the healthcare they need, we need a leader with a proven record of expanding healthcare access, protecting Medicaid, and lowering costs for our families. As the largest healthcare union representing over 10,000 workers across the State of New Jersey, we know Tahesha Way is that leader, and we are ready to stand with her every step of the way."

"I'm honored to have the support of District 1199J in the fight to protect our healthcare from Republican attacks and make our communities safer," said Tahesha Way. "Protecting our healthcare is personal to me. When I survived a life-threatening cerebral hemorrhage at 19, my insurance denied me the occupational therapy I needed, and I had to fight to re-train myself to read. I promised that I would never let that happen to anyone else – and in Congress, I'll never stop fighting to expand access to quality, affordable healthcare, protect Medicare and Medicaid, and lower prescription drug costs."

Tahesha has spent her career fighting for New Jersey families. As a county commissioner, she kept costs down by reining in tax increases and balancing the budget while still expanding services for vulnerable residents. As Secretary of State and Lieutenant Governor, she has led the fight for voting rights and working families – pushing back against Trump's attacks on voting access, expanding early voting and automatic voter registration, and championing key legislation to lower utility costs, expand mental health services, strengthen tenant protections, and support small businesses across New Jersey.

ABOUT TAHESHA

Tahesha Way is a mother, lawyer, lifelong public servant, and New Jersey’s Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of State. Raised in a working-class union household by an MTA bus driver and a rail clerk, she learned early the values of hard work, community, and speaking up for others. After surviving a life-threatening cerebral brain hemorrhage in college, she re-taught herself how to read when her health insurance refused to cover the therapy she needed.

Tahesha has served as an Administrative Law Judge and as a Passaic County Commissioner and Board of Commissioners Director, where she expanded youth justice reform, food access, and educational opportunities while balancing the budget without raising taxes. As Secretary of State, she led major voting-rights expansions and stood up to the Trump Administration’s attempts to undermine New Jerseyans’ rights. As Lieutenant Governor, she has championed affordability, mental health services, small business growth, and protections for families across the state.

Tahesha is running for Congress to protect access to health care, address rising costs, and fight for the hardworking New Jersey families who deserve a voice and a champion in Washington. She lives in Wayne with her husband, Charles, and their four daughters.
