HIGHLAND LAKES, NJ — Door-to-Door Democracy (D2DD), the New Jersey-based grassroots organization dedicated to restoring competitive democracy in the state's most underserved areas, celebrated the victory of its endorsed candidate Rebecca Bennett in New Jersey's 7th Congressional District earlier this week. This win extends the organization's undefeated endorsement record since its founding two years ago, having previously endorsed and worked to elect U.S. Senator Andy Kim and New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill.
Bennett, a former Navy helicopter pilot and health care leader, won the Democratic primary in one of the most closely divided Congressional districts in the country, defeating a field of three other candidates to earn the right to challenge Republican Rep. Tom Kean Jr., who has not voted in Congress since early March.
"Rebecca Bennett is exactly the kind of fighter Door-to-Door Democracy was built to elect," said D2DD Chair Leslie Meyer Huhn. "She came from service to her country and her community, not from political machines or party insiders. This week’s victory belongs to every volunteer who refused to give up on competitive democracy in places where it has been dormant for too long."
"Democracy only works when voters have a real choice," Huhn added. "We intend to make sure every voter in NJ-7 has one this fall.”
D2DD's ground operation in the district will continue and intensify ahead of November.
