Downey Statement on Announcement on Remote Learning Option for NJ Schools
(TRENTON) – Assemblywoman Joann Downey (D-Monmouth), who recently sponsored legislation to allow remote learning at the start of the upcoming school year, released the following statement on today’s announcement that New Jersey school districts will be given the option to conduct all-remote learning this fall:
“It’s impossible to predict how New Jersey will be impacted by COVID-19 this fall, particularly as flu season hits. With all this uncertainty, it’s critical that we give school districts multiple options for how to operate in the upcoming school year. All-remote learning needs to be one of those options, and after today, I’m thrilled and relieved it will be.
“Providing this option is a lifeline for school districts that are not yet ready to safely offer in-person instruction. This flexibility allows schools to listen to the needs of their communities and choose what’s best for their unique situations.”
