Education Advocacy Organization Celebrates Passage of
Bill Package that Addresses Sexual Abuse in Schools
Trenton, NJ- With overwhelming bipartisan support, the New Jersey General Assembly voted today to pass a bill package dedicated to eliminating sexual abuse and misconduct in the State’s school system. Better Education for Kids (B4K), an advocacy organization that works to ensure high quality educational opportunities for all the New Jersey’s children, celebrated this action. Shelley Skinner, Executive Director of B4K, issued the following statement:
“This bill package, in conjunction with laws already in place, solidifies New Jersey’s zero tolerance in regards to child sexual abuse. We are glad to see our State lead the way in making schools safer for our kids, and hope New Jersey can act as a model for other states looking to strengthen their own laws.
“We have seen countless cases of sexual abuse in our schools. Just this week, the media reported a South Jersey special education teacher was arrested and charged with sexual assault of a student. We applaud the work of Senators Ruiz and Madden, Assemblywoman Lampitt and the other legislative sponsors who championed these bills through the legislative process. Their work will go a long way to ensuring school is a safe haven for our children.”
