Election Night Statement by Make the Road NJ

It's a blue tsunami! Our members contacted more than 101,000 voters in the 2026 midterm season and we won!

Tonight, we’re celebrating a $20 rent cap in Elizabeth and a new Democratic majority with the will to stop Trump and ICE.

That work starts now and our members will see it through.

Tonight’s wins include:

  • Elizabeth: Voters approved a cap that limits rent increases to $20 per month.
  • NJ-2: The “Reject Van Drew” campaign with the Working Families Party helped elect Cape May Mayor Zack Mullock over Rep. Jeff Van Drew.
  • NJ-7: The “Send Tom Kean, Jr. Packing!” campaign, run with the New Jersey Working Families Party, New Jersey Citizen Action, and Climate Revolution Action Network, sent Rep. Tom Kean, Jr. packing.
  • NJ-8: Rep. Rob Menendez, who has called on the State of New Jersey to divest from Palantir, won re-election.
  • NJ-10: Rep. LaMonica McIver, who stood at Delaney Hall demanding accountability, won re-election.
  • NJ-11: Rep. Analilia Mejia, the union organizer who has introduced a $25 federal minimum wage, won re-election for the fourth time this year.
  • NJ-12: Dr. Adam Hamawy, an Army combat surgeon who ran on ending endless wars, was elected to Congress.
