ESSEX COUNTY FREEHOLDERS HONOR ESSEX COUNTY COLLEGE ON CELEBRATING ITS 50TH ANNIVERSARY

(Bloomfield, NJ) – During its Wednesday, April 10, 2019, meeting at Bloomfield Town Hall, the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders honored Essex County College on celebrating its 50th Anniversary. The Commendation was sponsored by acclamation and presented to the President of Essex County College, Dr. Anthony Munroe, by Freeholder President Brendan Gill.

Essex County College opened its doors in the fall of 1968, and since then more than 33,000 graduates have earned their Associate degrees. The college consists of two campuses, in Newark and West Caldwell, ensuring that all county residents have convenient access to quality education. They offer more than 50 Associate degree and Certificate programs that prepare students to transfer as juniors to four year colleges and universities, or go directly into their chosen career paths.

The staff and student body of Essex County College have garnered multiple awards over the years. They have produced 17 Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Transfer Scholarship recipients, the most among all the two year colleges in New Jersey and New York, and three Fulbright Scholars among its faculty.

The school has also established an outstanding tradition in the area of intercollegiate athletics. They have sent 24 student-athletes to the past three Summer Olympics, and they have combined to win nine medals.

District 5 Freeholder Carlos Pomares, Freeholder At-Large Patricia Sebold, District 1 Freeholder Robert Mercado, and District 4 Freeholder Leonard Luciano were also on hand to celebrate and commend Essex County College on 50 years of service as an educational and community resource to the residents of Essex County.
