Faith Leaders Joined by Residents to Call for Expansion of Access to Driver’s Licenses at Trenton State House
More than 25 faith leaders from diverse traditions will be joined by residents from across the state to call for the expansion of access to driver’s licenses and will deliver signed letters by Faith Leaders in support to legislators
TRENTON, NJ — Faith leaders will stand together at the Trenton Statehouse to call on New Jersey lawmakers to expand access to driver’s license to more residents this year and also deliver Faith Leader signed letters in support of improving access to driver’s licenses to state legislators. This is followed by rallies throughout the year across the state with residents calling for this common sense policy change to improve mobility for marginalized communities and improve road safety for all.
Allowing more residents to access driver’s licenses will benefit many vulnerable populations including formerly incarcerated, member of the LGBT community, undocumented immigrants, and survivors of domestic violence. Expanded access to driver’s licenses is also expected to increase road safety, boost New Jersey’s economy through collection of fees and insurance payments, and support the well-being of communities by decreasing the risk of family separation.
12 states and the District of Columbia currently have expanded access to driver’s license laws.
