FDU’S ROTHMAN INSTITUTE TO HOST MUNICIPAL INNOVATION SUMMIT
Officials from Essex, Morris, Somerset and Union Counties to Attend

(MADISON, NJ) – Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Rothman Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship announced today that they will host a Municipal Innovation Summit at the Florham Park campus on May 11 for municipal officials from Essex, Morris, Somerset and Union counties.

The summit, which will run from 8:30 a.m. to noon, will feature guest speakers, breakout panel discussions, and the inaugural Municipal Innovation Award. The award will be presented to one municipality in each of the four counties.

“Innovative thinking is driving rapid change in the private sector,” said Dale Caldwell, executive director of the Rothman Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship. “We want to bring that level of innovation to the municipal sector.”

Municipal officials from more than 100 municipalities within Essex, Morris, Somerset and Union counties have been invited to participate in the summit.

“The conversation in New Jersey is no longer only about shared services, it’s about innovation, knowledge sharing and best practices,” said Kenneth DeRoberts, CEO of Government Strategy Group, the firm producing the summit. “This summit is a critical step in the right direction.”

The breakout sessions will include topics such as 5G technology, increasing the use of drones, strategies for implementing smart cities technology, goal setting and strategic planning, and communication techniques for reaching constituents.

The program for Saturday, May 11 is as follows:

8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Networking breakfast
9:30 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. General assembly with speakers and award presentation
10:30 a.m. – noon Breakout sessions
