Governor Murphy: Climate Leadership Means Stopping Fossil Fuel Projects

After visit to California summit, it’s time for deeper commitment

Governor Phil Murphy is scheduled to appear at the Global Climate Action Summit in California today, to speak on a panel about the clean energy fight at the state and local levels.

Food & Water Watch Senior Organizer and Policy Advocate Lena Smith released the following statement:

“Governor Murphy has identified a goal of getting to 100 percent renewable energy, and he has spoken out against fracking and fracking waste. When he gets back from summit, it’s time for him to take action by stopping all new fossil fuel infrastructure projects in New Jersey– from the massive fracked gas power plant in the Meadowlands to the pipelines proposed through the Pinelands forest. He must also urge state leaders to deliver him a bill banning fracking waste across the state, a measure that had been vetoed by his predecessor. These moves will show that Murphy is ready to do more than talk about climate leadership–he is ready to take real action.”
