| (Trenton, NJ) – Former New Jersey Senate President Stephen Sweeney, the New Jersey state chairman for Natural Allies for a Clean Energy Future, issued the following statement regarding the Assembly Telecommunications and Utilities Committee’s approval of the New Jersey Natural Gas Modernization Act:
“As New Jersey faces rising costs and energy reliability challenges, Democratic Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo is right to ensure natural gas continues to be part of our energy network alongside renewables and zero-carbon nuclear. Expediting permitting and regulatory reviews for natural gas projects is an important step forward. With Democratic Governors from the Northeast advancing natural gas projects and permitting reform, we’re starting to see a broader bipartisan recognition that energy policy has to be grounded in reality, and that we cannot achieve a cleaner future without expanding and modernizing our energy infrastructure. If we embrace an all-of-the-above strategy, we can protect consumers from supply shortages and volatile price increases that will get worse in the years ahead without action. The more generation and low-emissions infrastructure we can build in our region, the more resilient and energy secure we become. That foundation is set by natural gas.”
