Former NJ-07 Candidates Denounce Tina Shah’s Negative Campaigning Against Frontrunner and Navy veteran Rebecca Bennett
Megan O’Rourke, Former NJ-07 Candidate
Tina Shah’s attacks on military veteran Rebecca Bennett are untruthful. It’s negative politics as usual, and we are all sick of it. Moreover, it’s disrespectful to the voters we need to win over. As a former candidate in NJ-07, and a voter in one of the most Republican parts of this congressional district (Sussex County), I always spoke about the need to win over Republican and Independent voters in NJ-07 to win this seat. Rebecca Bennett is our best shot to be able to do just that.
I look forward to working with her to deliver victory on June 2nd, and again in the general election to help her flip this seat.
Greg Vartan, Former NJ-07 Candidate, Summit Democratic Municipal Chair
As a former elected official, I’m reminded of the solemn oath of office. Those honored with election swear to represent the entire community. Not just Democrats, Republicans, or Independents. And not just the people who voted for us.
I support Rebecca Bennett because as a military veteran she understands the responsibility of that oath. Tom Kean Jr. is beatable and Rebecca offers a positive vision for the future, so I urge my fellow Democrats to stay focused - this is the wrong time for friendly fire.
Sara Sooy, Former NJ-07 Candidate & Somerset County Commissioner
As an elected official in Somerset County, I am disgusted by this attack from failing candidate Tina Shah on Somerset County native Rebecca Bennett. Rebecca has served this country for her entire adult life. In Somerset County, we pride ourselves on having flipped seats since 2017 up and down the ballot by building a broad coalition of Democrats, Independents, and Republican. This county has moved more Democratic over the last ten years, in part due to this coalition including former Republicans who are not happy with what the Republican party has become today. Rebecca will be elected as our nominee on June 2nd, and we will head into November to flip this seat with our best player on the field.
