FREEHOLDER PRESIDENT BRENDAN W. GILL AND THE ESSEX COUNTY FREEHOLDER BOARD APPROVE A COMMUNITY SERVICES BLOCK GRANT (CSBG) AWARD TO MONTCLAIR NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

(Bloomfield, NJ) – On April 10, 2019, Essex County Freeholder President Brendan Gill and the Essex County Freeholder Board voted unanimously to approve a resolution that will channel $53,000 to the Montclair Neighborhood Development Corporation (MNDC) for the calendar year of 2019.

These funds were provided through the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Program which allocates funds to assist in providing emergency services and various programs to low income communities throughout Essex County. The services provided through the Montclair Neighborhood Development Corporation will range from Employment Readiness and Financial Literacy programs, to Independent Living Support Services and Youth After-School programs.

After the vote, Gill stated, “As President of the Board of Freeholders, I’ve enjoyed the privilege of working with community organizations in Montclair and throughout Essex County to ensure that funding is directed properly and has an effective impact on the lives of our residents.”

Gill has served on the Freeholder board since January 2012. He continued, “The MNDC works tirelessly to enhance the quality of life for all Montclair residents. I am pleased that this resolution passed without delay.”

MNDC Executive Director Albert Pelham was also pleased with the outcome of the vote. “The MNDC would like to publicly thank Freeholder President Gill and the rest of the Board for ensuring that the county continues to fund programs, such as our Job Readiness program and Youth After-School programs, that are vital to the growth of the young people of our community.”

Pelham, who oversees community operations for the MNDC, also pointed out the importance that the MNDC’s working relationship with the Township of Montclair helps in achieving their goals. He continued, “The Job Readiness Program provides our youth with a head start on looking for summer jobs, then our collaboration process with the town of Montclair helps our young people secure the jobs they are looking for.”

Brendan Gill has served as the President of the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders since January 2018. He is in the second year of a three year term as an At-Large Freeholder.
