FRIDAY IS LAST DAY TO REQUEST A REPLACEMENT MAIL-IN-BALLOT SENT VIA USPS

Voters Can Take Advantage of Extended Hours at the Somerset County Administration Building in Somerville To Request, Receive and Submit Ballots

Somerville, NJ – Friday October 23 is the last day voters who have misplaced, damaged, not received, or improperly filled out their ballot can submit a request to have a replacement mailed to them. Ballot requests and submissions will continue to be conducted in person with social distancing and masks in the atrium of the Somerset County Administration building at 20 Grove Street in Somerville until the polls close at 8 p.m. on November 3.

“Our goal is to ensure every eligible voter has a ballot they can cast in time to be counted in this election, and that includes voters with a toddler that saw the ballot as a coloring book, voters who misplaced their ballot, or those who have a torn envelope,” said Somerset County Clerk Steve Peter. “Because of the possibility of postal service delays that could deliver ballots too late to be cast we are transitioning to providing ballots in-person only in Somerville.”

Requests can still be made for new ballots at https://www.co.somerset.nj.us/government/elected-officials/county-clerk/election-division/vote-by-mail/request-duplicate-ballot until Friday, October 23. After that date there may not be enough time to process new requests and have ballots delivered by the United States Post Office before Election Day and all requests for new ballots must be made in person.

Approximately 13,000 newly registered or reactivated voters have been mailed a ballot to their address of record as of October 19, and are encouraged to keep a look out in their mailboxes in the coming days. If they have not received their ballot by Monday, October 26, new and reactivated voters are encouraged to come to the County Administration Building atrium at 20 Grove Street in Somerville to request a new ballot in person.

The County Clerk and Board of Elections have extended the hours they will be available at the County Administration Building to help voters receive, fill out, and cast ballots this year. Staffers are ready to assist from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every weekday, and until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28. On Saturdays October 24 and 31 the atrium will be open from 9 a.m. to noon. Voters must wear a face mask and practice social distancing during these hours.
