Gloucester Township Republicans Demand Accountability for Commissioner Director Cappelli’s Reckless Rhetoric

Official calls President a “traitor” who must be “taken out of office one way or another” on his X account identifying him as Camden County Commissioner Director

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — Gloucester Township Republicans demand that Camden County Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli Jr. be held accountable for reckless and dangerous rhetoric that has no place in public office.

On his X account (@LouisCappelliJr), which identifies him as Camden County Commissioner Director and links to the county website, Cappelli wrote: “Traitor @realDonaldTrump has to be taken out of office one way or another.”

This is not political debate. It is an elected official branding the President of the United States a traitor and declaring he must be removed “one way or another.” The language is deliberate. It is open-ended. It names no election, no impeachment, no 25th Amendment, and no lawful process of any kind. When the Commissioner Director of Camden County speaks this way on the X account he uses as an official, the words carry the authority of the office.

We have already seen the consequences of this climate. The assassination of Charlie Kirk and the attempt on President Trump’s life in Butler, Pennsylvania, did not occur in a vacuum. They happened in an environment where public figures treat political opponents as enemies who must be eliminated “one way or another.” Officials who traffic in that language do not get to pretend their words are harmless. They help normalize the idea that the other side is not merely wrong, but must be taken out.

Commissioner Director Cappelli is not a private citizen. He is a longtime holder of county office who has chosen to use his public X account for this. Residents of Camden County, and the people who work in county government, should not have to wonder what their Commissioner Director means when he says the President must be taken out of office “one way or another.”

Gloucester Township Republicans call on Cappelli to immediately clarify his statement, retract the language, and apologize for it. If he will not, then the Camden County Board of Commissioners and the Democratic organization that keeps him in power should answer for why they continue to tolerate it.
This is not leadership. It is an elected official pouring fuel on an already dangerous fire. Gloucester Township Republicans will not stay silent while he does it.
