Gottheimer Announces Fix For Veterans to Access Health Care Services at Newton ImageCare Center

 Fix provides faster care, shorter travel times, improved benefits to Sussex and Warren County veterans

NEWTON, NJ – Continuing his efforts to improve veterans access to healthcare in New Jersey, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) announced that after working with the VA Community Care Network (CCN) Regional Administrator and health care delivery provider Optum, eligible North Jersey veterans will now be able to receive referrals for community care at ImageCare Center in Newton, next to the Newton Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC).

Veterans in Sussex and Warren counties will now be able to receive radiological care closer to home, without driving over an hour to the VA facilities in East Orange and Lyons.

Previously, veterans in Sussex and Warren counties were unable to receive radiological care in the CBOC medical complex and had to drive more than an hour to other facilities for radiological services. Gottheimer heard from local veterans service organization members that many sick veterans who require specialized care have difficulty traveling these distances.

“I am excited to announce that North Jersey veterans now have another option to receive the care they have earned — closer to home, in Newton — without having to endure unnecessarily long drive times or wait times. After visiting the Newton CBOC with the American Legion — and hearing their interests in accessing referrals to the ImageCare facility next door, it became one of my top priorities in my fight to improve their access to care,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “We must always have the backs of those who have had ours: the brave men and women who have served our nation and defended our freedoms. I will continue to fight for our veterans to ensure they have the benefits, care, and recognition they deserve.”

Gottheimer has led numerous initiatives seeking to improve veterans access to care:

In February 2020, Gottheimer and Bergen County Executive James Tedesco announced that eligible North Jersey veterans would be able to receive referrals for care at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center, following the hospital’s approval as a VA Community Care Network (CCN) provider.

In March 2020, Gottheimer called on Director of the VA New Jersey Health Care System, Vincent Immiti, to provide updates and to follow through on previous commitments to improve veterans’ access to care.
