Gottheimer Votes for Gateway in Bipartisan Omnibus Agreement

America Invests in National Security, Troops, Veterans and Fight Against ISIS-Inspired Terror

WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) released the following statement on his bipartisan vote for funding America’s Gateway Project, national security, and fight against the opioid crisis.

“Today, I voted to secure critical bipartisan funding for America’s Gateway Project, national security, and war on the opioid crisis.

“I am encouraged to see funding for the critical Gateway tunnel project included in the funding bill. Although we still face headwinds, this federal support is a constructive first step toward solving the most pressing infrastructure problem facing our nation. The Gateway Program will provide job-creating investments to fix New Jersey’s crumbling tunnels, bridges, roads, and rails and spur economic growth. Securing the gateway to one-fifth of America’s economy is not a partisan issue, it is an American issue.

“As we fight against ISIS-inspired and homegrown terror, our troops will be getting their largest pay increase in a decade and our veterans will see enhanced care at the VA. America will make critical investments to help protect our schools, nonprofits, and places of worship. By passing provisions like Fix NICS and the STOP School Violence Act, I’m proud Congress is taking bipartisan steps to protect our children in our schools. I’m also proud that we are investing in programs to fight the opioid crisis that is ravaging families across North Jersey.”
