Governor Murphy Appoints Mercury Advisory Board Member Mary Pat Angelini to New Jersey Council on Local Mandates

Westfield, NJ – Mercury, a bipartisan high-stakes public strategy firm, today announced that Advisory Board member and former New Jersey Assemblywoman Mary Pat Angelini is newly appointed to the New Jersey Council on Local Mandates by Governor Phil Murphy.

“Mary Pat’s record of strong leadership makes her a great addition to the New Jersey Council on Local Mandates,” said Mercury Partner Michael Soliman, who leads the New Jersey and Pennsylvania offices. “Her admired experience in both the public and private sector will serve this council well.”

The New Jersey Council on Local Mandates is a bipartisan body that is independent of the branches of state government.  Council members are directly appointed by the Governor, by the President of the Senate and the Senate Minority Leader, by the Speaker of the General Assembly and the Assembly Minority Leader, and by the Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court. Council members answer complaints filed by a county, municipality, or school board, or by a county executive or mayor who has been directly elected by voters. Angelini will serve her term on the Council through February 1, 2027.

“I’m honored to join this council, and I look forward to serving with the other

distinguished members on behalf of the residents of New Jersey,” said Angelini. “Locally elected leaders are the front lines of public policy, and it is imperative that they have the means to challenge mandates originating from the state level. All too often, well-meaning state regulations can disproportionally impact municipalities, and I look forward to advocating on behalf of these communities throughout the state to ensure they have a voice in the regulatory process.”

Prior to joining Mercury’s Advisory Board, Angelini served as CEO of Preferred Behavioral Health Group, one of New Jersey’s leading behavioral healthcare organizations. Her advocacy for mental health and addiction disorders spans more than two decades. As the Republican Assemblywoman representing the 11th Legislative District, Angelini was the primary sponsor of the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights and the “Lifeline” legislation.

Angelini holds several local leadership roles, including Vice Chair of the 200 Club of Monmouth County. She also sits on the Jersey Shore Partnership’s Executive Board and the College Achieve of Asbury Park Board of Education. Angelini’s commitment to children and families in her community and across New Jersey has earned her numerous awards from local, state and national organizations.
