Re-nominates Commissioner Holden

Trenton– Governor Phil Murphy today nominated Senator Bob Gordon to become a commissioner of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, a position that will require confirmation by the state Senate.

“Senator Gordon has long been a dedicated public servant in our state,” Governor Murphy said. “His years of leadership experience will make him a valuable asset at BPU as the agency works with utilities to ensure reliability and safety in our state.”

“Having first been drawn into public service by my interest in the environment and energy, I’m excited to return to my ‘roots’ with the opportunity of contributing to the Board of Public Utilities,” Gordon said. “I’m very pleased to join, and learn from, the highly regarded staff and to advance the Governor’s initiatives as part of this expert team.”

Gordon has represented the 38th legislative district since 2004. In 2007, after two terms in the General Assembly, Gordon was elected to the State Senate. In the Senate, Gordon served as the chair of the Transportation committee, spearheading reforms at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and various infrastructure investments. He also has a long history of service in his hometown of Fair Lawn, serving as Mayor, on the Council, as a member of the planning board, and as fire commissioner.

Governor Murphy also re-nominated Commissioner Mary-Anna Holden to her position on the BPU Board of Commissioners. She was confirmed as a member of the BPU board in 2012. Prior to her nomination, Holden served as Mayor of the Borough of Madison for four years and Councilwoman for ten years. Her re-appointment is also contingent on approval by the Senate.

“I am very pleased by the Governor’s nominations,” said BPU President Joseph Fiordaliso. “I know Bob will be a thoughtful and aggressive member of the Board and will be tremendously helpful in moving our initiatives forward. I am thrilled Commissioner Holden has been re-nominated and I applaud Governor Murphy for his choice. She has been a highly effective commissioner for the BPU.”
