GUSCIORA: TRENTON MISSED MARK ON TRANSPORTATION GRANT FUNDING
(Trenton, NJ) – Speaking Monday morning, Reed Gusciora, Assemblyman and Candidate for Mayor of Trenton, issued the following statement:
“This morning, I was informed by the Murphy Administration that a set of Transportation Grant decisions were forthcoming, with awards being issued to every Mercer County municipality, with the notable, but not necessarily surprising, exception of Trenton. When I asked why, I was informed that no grant application had been received from the City.
You just has to drive down a main street in the city and hit a pothole or go over a bridge in disrepair to realize that Trenton cannot afford to miss the mark on applying for grant funding related to infrastructure improvements.
If the City of Trenton is eligible for this funding source, then this is disturbing news, and indicative of a substantial failure in the current City administration, and, of course, the administration of former Governor Chris Christie, which solicited applications for the grants last year. It is this active lack of collaboration that I want to focus on when I am elected Mayor of Trenton. The Mayor’s office must develop active working partnerships with the Governor’s Office, and other partners across the State to ensure that Trenton does not allow critical financial support to be overlooked or fall through the cracks.
