for Pedestrian Improvement By Klockner Elementary School
Among 77 applicants statewide, Hamilton is 1 of just 18 projects selected for a grant program that will improve pedestrian safety by a local school.
Hamilton is poised to receive a $342,000 Safe Routes to School Program to make pedestrian safety improvements around Klockner Elementary School, which will include sidewalks, accessible sidewalk ramps in conformance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, new crosswalks and pedestrian signage and a new flashing school speed limit stanchions to improve safety.
The program is administered by the NJ Department of Transportation and conducted in partnership with the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority, the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, and the South Jersey Transportation Planning Organization. Township officials must have the project authorized for implementation by May of 2021 and comply with federal oversight regulations for the successful reimbursement through the grant program.
“We have made important safety improvements that benefit the safety of our school children and pedestrians over the years through this and other programs; and we look forward to continuing such efforts around Klockner Elementary School in the near future,” says Mayor Kelly Yaede.
Since 2012, Hamilton has received funding through the Safe Routes to School Program to make pedestrian safety improvements around Morgan and University Heights Elementary Schools, which included similar improvement to what will be implemented around Klockner Elementary School.
Hamilton also previously earned a Safe Streets to Transit Program grant to make similar types of pedestrian safety improvements along South Broad Street from just beyond the White Horse Roundabout to Hempstead Road, for the benefit of pedestrians, school children, transit passengers and nearby residents.
